Academic coaching is a partnership between a student and coach. Through structured conversations facilitated by the coach, students begin to develop the executive functioning skills and study routines needed to thrive academically.
Ongoing coaching encourages students to become more self-determined, flexible, and resourceful—the essential qualities necessary for a positive academic experience.
Coaching Helps Students:
- Utilize tools to prioritize tasks, manage time, and organize materials
- Adopt effective learning strategies to meet the demands and rigor of classes, assignments, test-preparation, and more
- Routinely create action plans to meet goals
- Capitalize on their strengths; identify supports for areas of difficulty
- Improve self-regulation of learning, behavior, and emotions
- Build and strengthen habits necessary for healthy physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing
- Develop critical thinking skills
Is Coaching the same as Tutoring?
No. A coach focuses on the process of learning, while a tutor focuses on content.
Does Coaching Guarantee Immediate Results?
No. Change happens over time, and progress can be marked by setbacks. This is normal.
